Volunteer
Keep the Community Rolling.
LDTR events don’t run themselves. Behind every race, social ride and dig day is a team of volunteers who make it all possible. If you’ve got a few hours to spare, we’d love your help.

What is a Volunteer?
The Crew That Makes It Happen
From race-day registration to setting up course marshals, LDTR volunteers are the backbone of every event. No experience required — just a willingness to pitch in and be part of something great.
Volunteers help out at a wide range of LDTR events throughout the year, including social rides, Lysty Chicks, Girls of Gravity, Trail Blazers, dig days and races.
You don’t need to be a member to volunteer, though we’d love it if you joined. Whether you ride or not, if you want to give back to the trails and community, you’re welcome.
Volunteer roles vary depending on the event, but typically include:
- Registering riders and managing check-in on the day
- Course marshalling and safety monitoring
- Setting up and packing down event infrastructure
- Helping with catering or BBQ duties
- Supporting event photographers or results teams
- Trail safety monitoring during races
Specific roles and requirements are listed with each event. If you’re not sure where to start, get in touch and we’ll find the right fit for you.
Anyone! You don’t need to be a member or an experienced rider to volunteer at LDTR events.
You will need to:
- Be 16 or over (under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)
- Register for the specific event you’d like to help at
- Be available for the full duration of your nominated role
That’s it. Show up, help out and enjoy being part of the community behind the scenes.
Beyond the warm fuzzy feeling of giving back, LDTR volunteers are a valued part of the club. Depending on the event, volunteers typically receive:
- A volunteer t-shirt or event merchandise (select events)
- Catering on the day
- Recognition from the LDTR committee and community
- The chance to be part of events that make Lysterfield such a great place to ride
Volunteering is also a great way to meet other riders, get to know the club and find out about other ways to get involved.

Trail Care Crew
Help keep Lysterfield’s trails in top shape. Our trail care crew tackles regular maintenance tasks — clearing drains, managing vegetation and repairing wear and tear to keep the network riding well year-round.
Trail Building Crew
Get your hands dirty and build something that lasts. Dig day volunteers work alongside experienced trail builders to shape berms, construct features and develop new sections of trail at Lysterfield Park.
Race events
Help make race day happen. From marshalling and timing to registration and setup, race event volunteers are essential to running LDTR’s competitive events for riders of all abilities.
Ride Leaders
Lead the way for your fellow riders. Ride Leaders guide social rides, support riders of all abilities and help create a welcoming environment across programs including Social Rides, Lysty Chicks, Girls of Gravity and Trail Blazers.
Grant writers
Help fund the future of the trails. LDTR relies on grants to develop and improve Lysterfield Park. If you have experience writing grant applications or want to learn, we’d love your support.
Advocacy support
Be a voice for mountain biking. Help LDTR engage with land managers, local government and the broader community to advocate for trail development, access and the long-term future of riding at Lysterfield.
TAP Support
Support the Trail Adoption Program. Help LDTR manage relationships with TAP sponsors, coordinate trail signage and ensure businesses investing in the trails get the recognition they deserve.
Skills coaches
Share your skills and grow the next generation of riders. Skills coaches assist with MTB lessons at Lysterfield, helping riders of all ages build confidence and technical ability on the trails.
Committee members
Help run the club. Committee members keep LDTR operating — from financial management and event planning to partnership development and strategic direction. A rewarding role at the heart of the organisation.
