Trail Blazers is a fun and supportive program for young riders who want to improve their mountain biking skills while riding with the community.
Each session begins with a coached skills session followed by a group trail ride. The focus is on learning, confidence and enjoying time on the trails with other young riders.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to ride along and be part of the experience.
Trail Blazers is open to young riders who enjoy mountain biking and want to build their skills on the trails.
Riders generally fit into one of two groups:
Blazers
Riders comfortable riding a mix of single track and fire roads who can ride around 10km at a varied pace.
Speedys
More confident riders who can ride most trails and features at Lysterfield and are comfortable riding 10–15km.

Ride leaders will decide groupings on the day to ensure everyone rides at a comfortable pace.
A parent or guardian must ride with their child during the session.
MEach Trail Blazers session follows a simple format designed to balance learning and riding.
Sessions typically include:
- a 30 minute skills session led by qualified coaches
- a guided trail ride through the Lysterfield trails
- regroup points along the ride so no one gets left behind
- time after the ride to relax, chat and share fruit and drinks
Groups are run as “no drop” rides, meaning riders regroup at junctions and ride together.
Each Trail Blazers session follows a simple format designed to help young riders learn new skills while enjoying time on the trails.
Arrival – 9:15am
Riders arrive and get ready for the session. This is a good time to check bikes, meet other riders and say hello to the ride leaders.
Skills Session – 9:30–10:00am
Each ride begins with a 30-minute skills session led by qualified coaches. These sessions focus on improving bike handling, confidence and trail awareness.
Trail Ride – 10:00–11:30am
After the skills session, riders head out for a guided group ride through the Lysterfield trail network. Groups may split based on ability, but all rides are run as “no drop”, meaning riders regroup at trail junctions so everyone stays together.
Finish & Social Time – 11:30–12:00pm
After the ride, everyone returns for fruit, drinks and a chance to share stories from the ride.
The aim of Trail Blazers is simple: help young riders develop their skills, build confidence and have fun riding the trails together.
