Why Take a Skills Lesson
Learn to ride with confidence
Want to learn?
Our skills sessions are designed to help riders develop the techniques needed to enjoy the Lysterfield trails safely and confidently. Lessons focus on the core skills of mountain biking including balance, braking, cornering, climbing and descending.
Sessions are delivered by experienced LDTR instructors who know the local trails and understand the challenges riders face when progressing their skills. Riders learn through a combination of practical exercises and guided trail riding.
We offer both group lessons and semi-private sessions depending on the level of coaching and personal attention riders are looking for.
Our MTB skills sessions are suitable for riders of different experience levels, from beginners who are new to mountain biking through to riders looking to improve specific techniques.
Participants should be comfortable riding a bike and have basic control before joining a lesson. Instructors will guide riders through exercises and trails suited to their ability.
Group lessons are a fun and supportive way to learn alongside other riders. These sessions focus on the fundamentals of mountain biking and help riders develop confidence on the trails.
Skills covered may include:
- bike setup and body position
- braking control
- cornering techniques
- climbing and descending
- navigating trail features
Group sessions provide a relaxed environment where riders can learn, practise and ask questions while riding together.
Semi-private sessions offer a more personalised coaching experience in a smaller group setting. These sessions allow instructors to spend more time working with each rider and focusing on specific skills or areas for improvement.
Semi-private lessons are ideal for riders who want more individual feedback, are progressing to more technical trails, or want to refine their riding technique.
- a mountain bike in good working condition
- an Australian standards approved helmet
- water and snacks
- basic riding gear suitable for trail riding
Riders should arrive ready to ride and allow time to check bikes and equipment before the session begins.
