Latest Build News:

December 2011:

Great turnout to the last build day of the year, thanks to everyone who came out to work on the trails andthose who stayed on for the BBQ lunch.

LDTR would like to thank Will from IMBA-AU for imparting his trailbuilding expertise to the trail crew, Parks Victoria (especially John and Sarah) for the providing a huge BBQ pack and Barbi, Lynda and Dave for cooking up a storm and as always the volunteers who make it happen.

President Update

Just a quick update (it’s been a while!) There has been more work happening in the park in the past month than I can remember (woohoo!)

Highlights include:

  • Word Trail has been working on the State Mountain Bike Course over the recent months and are back over the coming couple of weeks for another round of works, including continued works on the SMBC, and repair and realignment works to the recreation trail network’
  • IMBA-AU have just built an exciting new trail that links the yet to be completed club trail (aka Follow Me), with the existing trail network
  • Heaps of work has been undertaken and is continuing on Follow Me: with further refinement we hope to achieve Lysterfield’s first fun, technical downhill trail!
  • LDTR has achieved more than 2,500 volunteer hours this year, a huge effort!

Massive thanks has to go out to World Trail, IMBA-AU and Parks Victoria. In particular PV has to be acknowledged for their continued commitment to, and support of, the MTB community. PV has even recently purchased a powered wheel barrow!!

With the level of enthusiasm and contribution by our members and volunteers, I believe we have made a real difference to the trail network. I know I have learned a lot, and had many great hours in the bush with some really good people in the process. I hope this continues (both the learning and meeting like-minded MTB people).

We have our last volunteer trail build this Saturday the 10th of December. LDTR is putting on a free BBQ lunch for all volunteers and members, hope to see you there!

A happy festive season to all, and best wishes for the new year,

Andrew
LDTR President

October 2011:

World Trail completes State Mountain Bike Course work, updated Lysterfield map, a new trail for the park, and the list goes on!

Wow it’s been a while since the last news update, and there has been a lot of work going on at Lysterfield over the past few months, a quick update is definintely in order!

In brief:

  • World Trail have just completed work on the State Mountainbike Course (aka the CGT) – early reports are it rides very well, with some of the rebuilt sections having that certain rollercoaster fun factor associated with Glen Jacobs
  • Parks Victoria has also been very busy, with the wider trail network receiving lots of improvement and repair works, and providing help, resources and support for LDTR works
  • As for LDTR trail building operations, the club has undertaken some major works since the last update, and is proud to have built and contributed to the creation of  two new trails (extension of Snipe Track, and most recently a whole new trail, ‘Follow Me’), and the development of Lysterfield’s new pump track and skills area
  • There has been so much done in terms of improving the trail newtork that a new map has been created, showing the new sections of trail, and featuring topo details (for those who care about the metres gained and lost :) – Click here to view the new map
  • Thanks is in order to all the club members and volunteers who continue to contribute their valuable time to helping make Lysterfield a truly great place to ride. There is plenty more in the pipeline at Lysterfield, keep an eye on the forums for info on upcoming build days and updates. New faces are always welcome! You can also look up the club on Facebook.

April 2011:

Easter Trail Build Weekend

Just a quick update from the Easter trail building weekend. We had a great turn out on the weekend with 14 Volunteers attending on both Friday & Saturday. Big thanks to all that attended and I do think we are building some good momentum with volunteer numbers and work acheived.

We mainly worked on Upper Blair Witch Trail with placing 9 Berms in the trail. We have re-routed a good portion of the trail due to the unsustainable fall of the exisitng trail. The design hopefully will be a nice flowing trail with some cool features such as berms, rollers and eventually a Nice long Log ride.

Drainage works have been done through to Hug trail and hopefully the trails will be opened in the near future. Thanks again to PV for the equipment and all the Volunteers for attending.

Till next month.
